The new Mr & Mrs Shaw
Sep 2017: Do you do weddings? This is probably one of the most common questions put to any photographer and certainly one I've been asked more than a few times. My usual response is 'No, not any more.' I have done, professionally, in the past, though that seems like a long time ago now. Then I used a Mamiya C330S TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) with 120 roll film. I'm sure I still have it somewhere.
Having said my response would be 'No' I often qualify that with the three possible situations in which I would agree to photograph a wedding: 1) it's family or friends; 2) the wedding is tomorrow and the booked photographer is ill; 3) I'd be paid an obscene amount of money for it.
On this occasion it was family (strangely, no-one has yet taken up the 'obscene amount of money' option). And despite it being family - or perhaps because of it - the pressure seems just as great. All went well I'm pleased to say, and I'm so glad I asked Jane and Paul to pose for some shots in these Felixstowe seafront gardens; this was the most relaxed they'd been all day and, posh frocks aside, much more natural.
I wish them all the very best for the future.
