Time, I thought, for some experimentation - on this occasion with what's known as Intentional Camera Movement (ICM). It takes a great deal of trial and error, getting the right combination of shutter speed and movement to render a pleasing effect. And what works in one scenario, doesn't necessarily work in another. After about a dozen shots, this one works reasonably well.
And no, I didn't - as someone suggested - accidentally press the shutter as I fell out of a tree!
